I still can talk

The most annoying thing that happens to me during my stuttering is when someone completes my sentences. It goes like that: TF: “I think that if we change the ….. C… “ Annoyer: “Credit” TF:”No” With that look of mine. Annoyer: “Current?” TF: “No” With another kind of look that means (shut up or I will kill you) Annoyer: “Then do you mean ….” TF: “PLEASE , do not complete my sentences; Yes I stutter but I still can talk. So please let me finish” Annoyer: “Sorry, what were you going to say?” TF: “I forgot” I don’t know about other stutterers but I really hate it when other people complete my sentences. It does not make it easier; it make me feel that this person is in a hurry and can’t wait, which makes me force my self to talk but still can’t. BTW, the Annoyer in the dialog was my supervisor :p

If he does this again just slap him :P
Just think about it.. you are trying to say something, he goes and try to finish ur sentence... & what does he get... a quick slap on the cheek!!!
Don't think of it as a "6rag rashdi" but think of it as one of those quick slappy scence we used to see on egyptian black and white movies ;P
his reaction should be like this; he opens his eyes widely... places his hand on his cheek (trying to feel what hit him)... and then (believe me this is what he'll say) "ummmmm... you were saying?"

Try it :-)

Ra-1,

Why do you think it's not real?

You know my supervisor and how annoying he gets in such situations.

Don't worry you are not the purpose of this post.

I swear that you never did that, I am sure that you, "H" and "N" never did that.

Some people may assume that they are making you much more comfortable if they complete your sentences and not the other way around. I suggest next time he does it be strong and tell him nicely that it makes u uncomfortable when he does that. He's your supervisor and I'm sure he will definitely take it in a good way so dont be scared!!

I know one very friendly Kuwaiti girl who stutters. I dont think she uses emails and I dont think she is bilingual. but hopefully, when I get there I'll send you her phone number. Shes our age too.

By the way, try to see if he does that with everyone. He might be just a very impatient man that completes sentences for everyone and not just you!!

i find difficulty in avoiding eye contact when talking to women not coz they are pretty or anything like that
but coz im used to looking at someone right in the eye when i talk to them
if i see someone staring at me i would stare back till they turn away from, in the past i use to do it with females too
but i dont do that anymore
only with the guys

At 3/13/2005 09:15:00 AM, Blogger MASS said...

i know hardcore peeps who talk with no eye contact

q8ibloger,

Many people think that I am rude looking to the guys in the eye when talking to them, especially Kuwaiti guys.

But sorry I really can't, No eye contact means no words out.

:) Bless you, and thank you for giving me a smile with the story of your pushing forward despite your sufferings!

Maybe next time, just continue to say no while they give more and more suggestions, see how long you can waste their time, seeing as they were disrespectful of you!
"C"
"car?"
"No... C.."
"Cat?"
"No...C..."
-three hours later-
"No... C.."

If nothing else, maybe it will teach them patience!

This reminds me a little (though, I am in NO way comparing my own situation to your own very challenging one) of my color blindness... I just LOVE *hint, sarcasm* when I tell someone I am color blind, and then they ask me what color something is. Yeah, do they ask a blind person how many fingers they are holding up? Brilliant.

simon,

Welcome to my blog.

I ensure you that I will do it next time, I will waste their time; yes I will do ;)

Simon, what is a color blind; what colors that you can't see?

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Color blindness, or rather color deficiency as some prefer (I don't mind either, a rose by any other name!): Here is a quick test and example. To give you an idea, when I look at that page, it is just as the chart says; I can see the 25 but nothing else - for me I can't see the 56 that the chart says, just a bunch of dots there too! :)

Here is a more detailed explanation with some more graphics. The graphics are pretty boring to me, they all look the same. ;) Their samples look all the same as well, I can't see any numbers or anything on that page, you'll have to tell me what they are! (The only thing I can notice is that the rightmost map appears a bit more gray perhaps?)

Makes life interesting at times (e.g. approaching traffic lights at night, buying clothes without my wife's help) and aggravating at other times (try going through the Washington DC subway system when you are color blind, and all the trains and tracks are designated by colors!)

Overall though, I view it as a gift. A constant reminder to me that everything I sense is my perception, and may not represent things as they really are. Awareness is a good thing. :)
